Meet "Sandy", a strong, well-developed two-year-old filly with a lovely, free-flowing walk. Correctly conformed with excellent bone and great length, she covers a lot of ground and is projected to mature into a very good size. While she won't be pushed as an early two-year-old, she has the physical scope and pedigree to develop into a powerful three-year-old racehorse. Sandy is mature enough to work on her own and is an absolute delight to have in the stables. We are incredibly excited to work with her. She was scoped in June 2026 with a Grade 2.1 result.
We have worked with Windsor Park for almost my entire career, enjoying a highly successful partnership. Our best result together is Zola Express, a six-time winner of NZ$227,712, including victories in the Awapuni Gold Cup (Gr.2) and the Wanganui Cup (L), along with 2nd and 3rd placings in the Taranaki Cup (Gr.3). Windsor Park will also be retaining a 10% share in Sandy, which is always a fantastic sign of confidence.
Racing Plans: Sandy has been broken in by Chad Ormsby and successfully completed her initial preparation. We will gradually build her up to a galloping stage, and if she handles the pressure well, this may lead to an educational jump-out this Spring (depending entirely on her physical maturity). Her trackwork riders and the training team have been highly impressed so far, typically describing her as a "lovely natured filly with a very smooth galloping action."

Sandy boasts an exceptional international foundation as a daughter of triple Group 1 winner Circus Maximus, a champion miler by Galileo who joined Frankel as one of only two sons of Galileo to win both the St James's Palace Stakes and Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Circus Maximus is already making a major impact at stud, highlighted by New Zealand Derby (Gr.1) winner Road to Paris. Sandy is the first foal out of Sangrita, a talented mare who won at 1200m and finished 4th in the Hawke's Bay Gold Trail Stakes (Gr.3). Sangrita herself is by Shamexpress, sire of world-class sprinter Ka Ying Rising.
This is a deep, black-type family we know intimately, having trained both Sandy’s granddam Tequila Sunrise (a four-time winner) and her half-brother Tequila Spirit. Tequila Sunrise is out of the stakes-winning mare Grace Park (CJC Inglewood Stakes, L), who has left a string of high-class performers including Matamata Slipper (L) winner Prince Mambo, a 5-time winner of $224,865 who was placed in both the Manawatu Sires' Produce (Gr.1) and NZ 2000 Guineas (Gr.1), alongside stakes-placed Pullyoursocksup and recent multi-winner With Grace.
